Trust that if you follow your intuition, you’re on the right path.
Tap into your intuition
For me, Tarot is an excellent tool to help us access our intuition and inner wisdom. It’s not about getting it right, but practicing seeing something of ourselves in the cards. If you have a strong reaction, that means something. If you don’t connect with a card at all, that means something too. This practice is about trusting that your initial instinct is valid and informative.
The spread below is beginner-friendly and works with any Tarot or oracle deck. If you don’t have a deck, you can pull cards digitally in the free version of the Labyrinthos app.
Look inside yourself
For this third-eye chakra practice, think about an area of your life in which you desire deeper insight. Maybe it’s how you fit into your family system, your relationships at work, or how you understand your life’s purpose. Or maybe you're curious about a particular time in your life: you can focus on just what is true for you today, without a specific area attached to the question. Or maybe you look back on the last ten years of your life or ahead to the coming year.
Whatever realm of life you’re curious about, hold it in your mind as you shuffle the deck and ask yourself, “What do I know is true?” Whenever you feel satisfied that you’ve shuffled enough, cut the deck once or twice and then draw three cards off the top, laying them out like so:
Spend time looking at the cards: notice what emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations arise as you take in the imagery, colors, and symbols. Especially notice what your self-talk is about your insights. Practice assuming that whatever comes to you is important and valid, accepting your initial reactions with kindness and gentleness above all else.
Note: I always encourage people to do your own interpreting before turning to the guidebook that came with your deck or any other resources. Because this is a practice for tapping into your intuition, I actually encourage you to disregard books, blog posts, podcasts, YouTube videos, etc. altogether and truly rely on what the card is saying to you. It’s OK if you don’t know the traditional meaning of a card. This is about letting the card itself bring out the wisdom that already lives inside you.
That said, I do think it would be wonderful to do this reading with a trusted friend who will support you as you unearth your own insights, drawing on what they know (and love!) about you. Just no one-size-fits-all interpretive material.
Card one represents what you know to be true in this area of your life in your body. Think about your gut, your bones, your nervous system. Maybe what your body knows to be true about your creativity is that your hands want to dip right into the paint and smear it on the canvas. Where do you feel a response to any of the three cards in your body?
Card two represents what you know to be true in your mind. What ideas have been bouncing around in your brain that this card is calling to? What thoughts have you already had about your work situation or boundaries you need around the holidays? Maybe this card is saying, you already know this. You’ve known for some time. Can you accept these thoughts with kindness? Is there self-judgment that needs to be invited to take a seat?
Card three represents your spirit—the part of you that is connected to all other beings, to the earth, the cosmos, the divine. What are the things that you just know? Not in your logical thinking brain, but in your heart, in your senses beyond your physical senses? Maybe you’ve asked what you know is true in one of your close relationships and what comes to you is simply, “I am loved.” It could be a harder truth like, “I’m lonely in this relationship,” or “I’m not seen in the way I want to be seen.” There’s no right or wrong, just insights. Just noticing. Always with kindness.
Finally, take a moment to journal about whatever has come to you as you’ve worked with these cards. Pay particular attention to your question: What do I know to be true in my body, mind, and spirit in this area of my life?
You don't have to go it alone.
