Make Space for Creativity & Rest
BRIGHT BLESSINGS of the FULL WOLF moon to you
JANUARY 3, 2026
Time to rest
Have some cocoa. Curl up with a book. Get lost in a craft. Hug a pet.
Following nature’s rhythms means knowing when it’s time to take a pause, and there’s no better time than on these long, cold nights. So go ahead, find a wolf. Put a scarf on that wolf. Take a nap with it.
Make your own moon calendar
If you’re looking for a craft to do on your own or with friends, I typically make a poster-sized moon calendar for the year and hang it on the wall above my altar. Want make one? Here are some ideas to get the juices flowing:
Your calendar can look however you want! Personally, I make mine by cutting circles out of scrap booking paper and arranging them on a large piece of craft paper. Some variations I’ve done are:
Black paper for the new moons and white paper for the full moons.
Sometimes I make half circles for the first and last quarter moons and incorporate them into the design. Usually of a different patterned paper than the full moons.
Some years I arrange them in a circle, and sometimes in a spiral.
Add dates and labels, often by writing along the inside or outside edge of the circle. Or I’ll write the first letter of the month and the date in the circle with a metallic Sharpie. For example, August 14 would be written A14.
But there’s no wrong way to do it! Get creative, have fun, look at Pinterest for inspiration, and tag @wild.mavenwellness on Instagram in pics of your creations!
Check out farmersalmanac.com for more variations on moon names and more.
And for some digital Moon tracking, here are instructions for adding the phases of the moon to your Google calendar.
I also use the Android app Moon Phase Calendar by probadoSoft to put a widget on my phone’s home screen that shows me each day’s moon phase. And I must say, it’s a treat!
Be well
This time of year can be so peaceful and so joyful. It can also be lonely. For those of us in the United States, our country is experiencing many waves of increased division, mistrust, and fear. However you are feeling, make sure you do what you need to fill up your cup. Look for helpers, and whenever possible, be a helper.
When I was a boy and I would see scary things on the news, my mother would say to me, ‘look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’
