Embrace Your Heart Chakra

The chakras are seven primary energy centers in the body, starting with the root at the base of your spine and ending with the crown at the top of your head. Originating in Indian spiritual traditions, the word chakra means “wheels of light” in Sanskrit. The heart chakra (also called anahata) is found, of course, at the heart. (Sometimes things are just as simple as that!)

The heart chakra is associated with:

  • Compassion

  • Unconditional love

  • Devotion

  • The color green

  • The element of air

  • Musical note F

Meditate

The easiest way to support your heart chakra is just to meditate on it. Wherever you are, if you need to find a bit of calm or tap into loving kindness for yourself or someone else, take a few calming breaths and imagine your heart doing its steady, essential work of bringing fresh oxygen throughout your body.

If you have a few more minutes, here is a guided audio meditation you can use as well:

Community

The best thing we can do to cultivate heart energy in our lives is to share it with others. Find ways you can invest time and energy in friendships, your neighborhood, lend a hand to a coworker, ask for and receive help graciously, and tell people that you appreciate, care about, and love them.

  • Call someone to catch up

  • Text someone to tell them you’re thinking of them

  • Cook dinner for friends

  • Trade errands, childcare, or petcare with a friend or neighbor

  • Cover for a coworker so they can use a personal day

  • Volunteer in your community

Crystals

These crystals are just a few that are recommended for heart chakra support. Source them from your local crystal shop, or if you’re going to shop online, I always recommend supporting Wild Maven’s community partner, The Space Within. Their online shop also has great descriptions of the properties of each crystal type, so they’re a great resource for learning more about each of these.

  • Peridot

  • Pink or lavender kunzite

  • Rhodonite

  • Watermelon tourmaline

  • Green aventurine

  • Rose quartz

  • Rhodocrosite

Yoga

Yoga positions that support the heart chakra include any gentle movements that open up your chest, such as:

  • Fish pose

  • Cobra pose

  • Camel pose
